Welcome, weary traveler…
Thanks for checking out our website. In just a few clicks and keystrokes, you’re already closer to a sounder sleep. Good for you!
Now that you’re here, let me tell you a little about the crew here at Sleep Critic. I’m John Steelman and my lovely co-contributors/conspirators are Patrick Kennedy and Lisa Allen. Together, we’re the Sleep Squad! (Oops. I was meant to keep that geeky name a secret. Sorry, guys.)
How did we get here?
Patrick, Lisa and I joined forces in sunny California, where fate and our high school transcripts joined us together in college. As young, fit and energetic people, sleep was something we didn’t think about very often. Sometimes we had a great sleep, sometimes…well, you know how taxing campus life can be! But a lack of sleep didn’t seem to affect us physically – or so we thought.
Fast-forward a few years and we were all in jobs that challenged us, that motivated us…and that absolutely exhausted us. We all learned the hard way what working too hard and not getting enough sleep can do. So when we met again at a class reunion, it wasn’t long before the question arose – how can we live healthier, happier and less tiring lives?
And so Sleep Critic was born.
We realised that a common link between so many of today’s problems – from stress to depression, heart disease to obesity – is a lack of sleep. So could getting more, better-quality sleep really be the answer?
Turns out that yes, yes it can. That’s why our current mission is to put the world to sleep with our posts (hopefully after they’ve finished reading!)
Because although there’s tonnes of evidence out there on the importance of sleep, let’s face it – that scientific jargon ain’t exactly a page-turner. So on this site we’ll be talking about all things sleep-related in a language everyone can understand. Sleep is good. No sleep is bad. Rocket science, I think not…
How we can help you…
If you’re having trouble sleeping, this is the place for you. If you sleep like a baby, great – we’ll show you how to keep it up! Think of this site as your sleep sanctuary, your treasure chest of snoozefests.
Find out how you can be more productive at work. Discover how to improve your relationship (without having to splash out on fancy gifts!) Learn how to lose weight, gain confidence and get rid of anxiety. All this, plus advice on enough sleep-aid products to send you on the express train to La-la Land (Not the movie. Although that’d be great, too!)
We’re objective when it comes to our reviews and will only cover products that have your maximum comfort in mind. Because we’ve had enough sleepless nights ourselves; we’d never inflict any upon you!
People sleep differently. Some are side sleepers; others remain firmly on their backs. Some love a lie-in; others are up with the dawn chorus. Whoever you are and however you sleep, you’ll find something here for you. Because we’ll cover a wide enough range of mattresses, pillows and other bedtime companions to make sure you find the perfect match.
Why you should bother…
If there’s one thing that can make you feel more awake and alert in your daily life, it’s sleep. It might sound strange now but trust us on this – we’ve been studying sleep manically (like the gigantic nerds we are) for over 5 years now – and we know what we’re talking about!
Our mission is to make everyone get as much great sleep as they need – and to live healthier, happier lives as a result.
After all, if everyone was more rested, more happy and more healthy…well, what a wonderful world it’d be!
So get comfy, make a cup of tea, press ‘mute’ on your tv or your noisy neighbor if you can…and start reading stuff that’ll change your life. Truly.
We don’t normally brag but we’ve unearthed a key factor in the quest for happiness and we’re pretty damn proud. It worked for us, it works for the countless people we advise every day and it can work for you, too.
Have a look around, try out some of our tips and have a great, GREAT night’s sleep…tonight, and every night.
